COMMUNITY TASKFORCES

Originally the RJI Task Forces were formal groups of business, government and community leaders that convened to address regional issues such as innovation and physical infrastructure. Although these groups no longer meet formally, their members and leaders continue to make advances in the focus areas of:

Implementation Task Force / Leadership Council The Implementation Task Force and Leadership Council combined forces in 2006 to better foster collaboration among business, education, government and community leaders in the region. The group is charged with monitoring the implementation of the RJI and making policy recommendations as needed.

Communications In order to foster better communications within the region, the RJI has developed a monthly e-newsletter, logo and brand development, communications tools directory, and this Web site.

Customer Service The RJI is working with the city of Fresno and the County of Fresno to improve their services to business customers in the development community.

Finance Recently, RJI leaders have helped bring three investment funds to the region, as well as attract more investment interest.

Government Affairs Because the San Joaquin Valley has experienced years, even decades, of neglect from state and federal government, RJI leaders have sought to help unite the Valley behind common issues to address this neglect.

Innovation The RJI is working with member organizations to change the mindset and culture of the Fresno region to embrace innovative thinking and creativity.

Livability The RJI is supporting a number of projects from increasing green spaces to attracting “boomerangs” to Fresno, among others, to improve quality of life in the region.

Physical Infrastructure RJI partners are working to increase the number of “shovel-ready” industrial space in Fresno County, as well as encouraging business participation in various incentive zone programs.

Technology Infrastructure The RJI is encouraging local jurisdictions to foster the growth of technology infrastructure through programs such as Clovis’ “Technopolis” and Fresno’s free downtown Wi-Fi services.

Workforce Development With a skilled, qualified workforce the cornerstone to a “build to last,” diversified economy,” the RJI is working with the Fresno County Workforce Investment Board and educational institutions on strategies to better prepare workers.
