Governor signs Executive Order extending the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley.
Governor Schwarzenegger visited Fresno City College last Wednesday, November 30, 2006, to sign an Executive Order that extends the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley for another two years. The Partnership’s 10-year strategic action proposal was submitted to and accepted by the Governor in November. (To download the proposal, go to www.bth.ca.gov and click on “California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley.”) Now the 8-county, public-private Partnership is turning its attention to implementation of the strategic action proposal. The Governor’s visit to Fresno City College’s nursing program signaled his commitment to improving vocational education programs, particularly those related to nursing and health care in general. In fact, the San Joaquin Valley Nursing Education Consortium, a collection of all the nurse educators in the region, were awarded a $500,000 grant from the state to expand nursing training. If you would like more information about the next steps for the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley, please call Fresno State’s Office of Community and Economic Development at 559-294-6021.

SBIR grants seminar sponsored by ICWT to be held next week.
The International Center for Water Technology is sponsoring a Small business Innovative Research Grants Seminar to be held next Tuesday and Wednesday, December 12 and 13. At this seminar, new and aspiring small businesses can learn about the SBIR and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) programs including how to apply for the grants and what it takes to be awarded a grant from the $2 billion allocated by U.S. Government research and development investments. The SBIR program funds high-risk projects at the earliest stages of technology development—before companies can attract venture capital—and works with them through their development and on into the actual commercialization of their technology. For more information or to register, please visit www.icwt.net or call 559-278-2066.
